The average salary for a financial analyst in the United States is $56,000 and the median is $55,100, as of September 2014, according to salary information website, PayScale. Salaries range from $40,571 to $75,870. Financial analysts also receive compensation in the form of bonuses, profit sharing and commission. Bonuses ranged from $0 to $10,044. Profit sharing compensation ranged between $504 and $7,157. Commissions ranged from $0 to $18,548. Overall, total pay for financial analysts ranged between $40,349 and $80,420.

Financial analysts also receive compensation in the form of health care benefits. Medical benefits are available to 89% of financial analysts, with dental benefits provided for 80% and vision benefits provided for 66%. However, 9% of financial analysts have no medical benefits reported.

The amount of experience a financial analyst has affects his or her average salary. An entry-level financial analyst earned 4% less than the national average. Mid-career financial analysts earned 13% above the national average, experienced financial analysts earned 17% more, and late-career financial analysts earned 25% more.

Specific skills affect the salary of a financial analyst with financial modeling skills increasing a salary by an average of 9%. General data modelling skills increased salaries by an average of 7%, forecasting by 6%, performance analysis by 6%, budgeting by 5%, budget management by 5%, financial analysis by 4%, financial reporting by 3%, research analysis by 2% and data analysis by 1%.
