I'm not a post-Doc.
Working in this fields for couple of years, I didn't see bright future, too.
Once you were laid off, there are many positions available, but wait.., most of them are temp positions. From 3 month to 1 year or longer.
Then you switch from one company to another, work in different fields, learned a lot of skills, but still contractor...
Pay raise? Holiday pay? Bonus? --They are just dreams.
Whenever there is an opening, they will tell you that you are not senior enough, and also you will know there are many Ph.D candidates.
There are so many contractors who are smart and work hard, but still stuck there. I know 3 smart Ph.D working as contractors in my current company...
We have to admit this is the reality. I would go for statistics if not take Dr. LaoTu's class.
I wish one day I waive goodbye to them happily, with couple of better offers in hand.
Hopefully this dream is not too far away....
